Minecraft Reaches 54 Million Sold, Console Editions Pass PC

Mojang's Patrick Geuder said that Minecraft's massive sandbox is close to 54 million copies across all platforms. Geuder also announced on Twitter that the sales of console (Xbox 360, PS3) versions have now surpassed those of PC and Mac versions. The game will be available on Xbox One, PS4 and Vita in August, the latter being Cross-Buy compatible and free for users of the PS3 version.  Hunter  and PS4 owners who have the game on their Xbox 360 or PS3 will be able to download the most recent versions for $5.

The first version of Minecraft was released in May 2009. This was two years prior to its full release in November of 2011. Mojang and Markus "Notch", Persson, the creator of Minecraft have achieved a number of milestones in sales. Recently, Mojang reported that 15 million copies had been sold of the PC version. In the same month, the Xbox 360 version reached 12 million sold, while the Pocket Edition for iOS and Android hit the 21 million mark. [Image: Mojang]
